It was in 1894 that Robert Southey wrote the famous children’s fairytale of Goldylocks and the three bears. From then on, teddy bears have captured the hearts and imaginations of millions of children and adults alike.

Steiff started life as a small family business in Germany and has been producing bears since 1897. It was in 1899 that Margarete Steiff patented 23 of her bear designs. However, it wasn’t until 1902 that they were known as the teddy bear, or Teddy’s bear at the time in the United States.
